advertisment

This home by Richard Murphy Architects was designed for Richard Murphy himself in the New Town of Edinburgh.

The house intends to fulfil certain architectural ambitions, one of which is the dramatic sloping roof.

Made predominantly of glass, the roof is inset with photovoltaic cells, which are designed to ensure maximum daylight consumption as well as be a major collector of solar energy.

There are insulated shutters in the roof that open and close when net heat increases and decreases to keep an equal balance of warmth.

Furthermore mechanisms in the house circulates air flow as well as storing heat in a rock store placed for night time heating.
