Kiwis are still in love with the pavlova paradise, and despite ever-shrinking outdoor spaces, we’re finding more and more ways to get the most out of them.

That’s according to new research commissioned by Mitre 10, which saw more than 1,500 New Zealanders surveyed about their connection to the quarter-acre dream.

An overwhelming 84% of respondents agreed that they liked the idea of the traditional large plot of land with a standalone house and plenty of room outdoors, and almost all said they would rather live on this type of section than in high-density housing with reduced outdoor living spaces.

Yet over half of respondents felt that their outdoor living space is smaller now than what they had growing up.
