2014 PCNZ Supreme Winner

ASB NORTH WHARF "BEST OF THE BEST" ASB North Wharf has been awarded the top honour at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards 2014. The project entry received the coveted Supreme Award as 'the best of the best' at the prestigious annual commercial property development awards. The cutting edge structure also snapped up the best in category award within the Hays Commercial Office Property Award category, and a merit in the Resene Green Building Property Award. ASB North Wharf is a major new office development extending to over 21,000 square metres of lettable area in the emergent Wynyard Quarter. Kiwi Income Property Trust in conjunction with ASB successfully created an innovative, healthy and more productive work place environment in a building fabric seamlessly integrated with advanced operational systems. The development was conceived and completed in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis and has resulted in a sound financial investment for the owner underpinned by a long term structured lease to ASB. It provides an eye catching landmark building for the Auckland waterfront and a major catalyst for future development in the Wynyard Quarter. Convenor of the judging panel John Dunn said the judges were impressed with the total scope of the project. "Everything about this building was impressive. The attention to detail, the co-operation of all stakeholders, the leading edge engineering features incorporated, the commitment to sustainability and the delivery of a very complex project providing quality office accommodation for the ASB's head office." Evaluation criteria also included economic and financial factors, project vision and innovation (including degree of difficulty), design and construction, owner and user satisfaction, and sustainability and efficiency of operation. The evaluation period over three months narrowed the decision -- battling against 64 other project finalists, the judging panel deemed ASB North Wharf to stand out above all others. Recognition was given to 40 projects, geographically spread from Dunedin to Kawakawa. John Dunn said a noticeable feature of this year's entries was the increasing awareness of seismic issues and the initiatives being undertaken to achieve the required levels of compliance while recognising the aesthetic and financial requirements of a successful development. Nine projects received an 'Excellence' Award, presented to properties that achieve a high standard across all judging criteria, with a further nine properties deemed to be outstanding and worthy of additional recognition were granted a 'Best in Category' Award. Merits were awarded where some aspect of the development is compelling. New Zealand's esteemed property industry awards have been running for close to two decades. The awards celebrate positive contributions to the built environment and attract submissions from the country's finest commercial property developments.
