The appeal of timber floors is widely recognised by design professionals, so a system that allows them to be installed quickly, efficiently and effectively is a big bonus.

Selleys® Liquid Nails Direct Stick™ high-strength adhesive system can be used to create a quality timber flooring installation that will stand the test of time, says marketing director Warwick Rounce.

The system includes Liquid Nails Direct Stick Timber Flooring Adhesive, a rapid-cure polyurethane adhesive for bonding timber parquet and strip flooring. For sealing concrete slabs, it also includes Liquid Nails VBS Vapour Barrier.

How does it work? Once a floor has been laid, appearance and performance problems are usually the result of changes in the moisture content of the timber, which can cause movement. The Selleys Liquid Nails Direct Stick System treats both the cause and the symptoms.

Using Liquid Nails VBS Vapour Barrier beneath the timber floor seals concrete slabs, keeping changes in the moisture content to a minimum. The Liquid Nails Direct Stick Timber Flooring adhesive then holds the floor boards firmly in position.

How does Liquid Nails Direct Stick differ from traditional flexible timber floor adhesives? When applied to a continuous substrate, Liquid Nails Direct Stick forms a semi-rigid bond that resists timber movement. Traditional flexible adhesives move with the timber, which can lead to cupping and unsightly gaps between floor boards.

How does the system prevent hollow spots and squeaks? Liquid Nails Direct Stick has a controlled foaming formulation that expands into small gaps and hollow spots between the timber and concrete. This ensures consistent adhesive contact between the two surfaces, minimising the occurrence of hollow spots or reverberating floors. It also minimises timber movement, holding the boards firmly in position to prevent squeaks.

Is Liquid Nails Direct Stick compatible with high-performance polyurethane surface coatings? Yes. When adhering to a continuous substrate such as concrete, Liquid Nails Direct Stick forms a semi-rigid bond with the strength to resist the edge-bonding forces that cause rafting or panelisation.
