You can improve both the energy performance and value of your home with a Homestar™ rating
Most renovations are about lifestyle improvements, but they can also be about making our homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.
When you focus on these things with your renovation, you not only improve your home's environmental performance, but you also invest in the future value of your home. But how do you know what makes a difference?
The answer lies with Homestar™, an environmental quality mark developed by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) and backed by the government. Homestar allows you to compare your home's environmental performance against an established benchmark.
Membership to myHomestar™ online offers an easy-to-follow journey of home improvement and maintenance. Along with a Recommendations Report, there is a self-assessed Homestar rating you can undertake for your home. For a formal Homestar Design or Certified Built rating, you can engage a Homestar Assessor, who will provide a comprehensive, in-depth audit of your property. Assessors are available throughout the country.
NZGBC says the Homestar rating, as it is known, will become more important in improving the resale value of your home as it becomes recognised as a proven home performance measure.
