White-sand beaches, verdant parks, a string of social and commercial amenities, and upscale apartments – Golden Mile, Palm Jumeirah offers an à-la-carte lifestyle
Increasingly developers focused on upper-end residential projects are responding to requests for contemporary apartments that combine a sense of exclusivity with a range of nearby attractions. One way to be sure of both is to create an island just off shore, with refined apartment buildings, five-star hotels, marinas, contemporary commercial facilities and an array of entertainment options – all ringed by white sand beaches and the royal blue ocean.
Golden Mile, on Palm Jumeirah island, is a joint-venture, mixed-use project by IFA Hotels & Resorts and master developer of Palm Jumeirah, Nakheel. Golden Mile comprises 10 buildings, consisting of 860 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, and penthouses.
The setting is central to Golden Mile's attraction. Palm Jumeirah is a 0.5km wide, man-made island that comprises a trunk and crown, outlying fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that acts as a breakwater for the development. Golden Mile is on the central trunk and is connected to the mainland by a 300m bridge, and serviced by a monorail system. An under-sea tunnel connects the main island to the crescent.
Palm Jumeirah has a village centre, restaurants, cafés and a variety of retail outlets. Golden Mile residents can have access to the facilities of the neighbouring Fairmont Palm Hotel set to open next year. These include a clubhouse, a pool, and health club.
Golden Mile apartments present a range of living options. Designed in a modern interpretation of classic Arabian architecture, they all offer generous balconies, large windows looking out over sea and parklands, and open-plan interiors. Formal entrances and grand living spaces, complete with pillars and recessed ceiling elements, contribute to the upmarket ambience. Luxurious materials, such as marble flooring, feature throughout the development.
Apartments range in size from 125m² to 325m², with penthouses offered in three level options, with floor areas from 476m² to 998m².
In addition to a reception area with concierge and full security, owners can purchase benefits such as apartment servicing, housekeeping, childcare and maintenance from the Fairmont Palm Jumeirah hotel. There are gymnasiums, pools, shops and boutiques within the development. Condominium management and an owners' association provide administrative systems for the buildings.
The multitude of amenities and thrill of living on a white-sand resort island are also available on a leasing basis. Golden Mile allows existing owners to either occupy their apartments or lease them through IFA Hotels & Resorts.
The Golden Mile development will also include freehold commercial space in the near future – the first to be offered on Palm Jumeirah. Office sizes will range from 53m² options up to a staggering 765m². Locating an office here offers the recreational resources of the resort island together with the close proximity of Dubai's highly developed business infrastructures.
However, the advantage of Golden Mile for owners and lessees is its pristine environment – combining an idyllic climate with a purpose-designed island, high-end accommodation and every amenity. For residents, the bridge from Palm Jumeirah across to the mainland may well be the road less travelled.
