Homes designed to shelter two families under roof are an increasingly popular option to make building new more affordable
About the project: With populations and house prices continuing to climb, building new is becoming an increasingly expensive prospect.
So, what’s the solution? Well, one possible answer lies with dual occupancy housing.
These are essentially houses large enough for two families – a new take on the duplex, but more flexible. One family can finance the construction of a new home, including enough space to house a second family and subsequently generate income from the rent.
ILUKA is one such house, designed by The Little Brick Studio. From the street, it appears you’re looking at one home, but look closer and you’ll see it’s actually one building divided into two distinct parts.
Have a look through the gallery to see how it works.
