The design for this home is based on an iconic 100-year-old home of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright

Taste of history

To complement the home's architectural style and reflect the client's individuality, interior designer Brett Ryan of Shibui Interiors worked with Santa Barbara Homes and the owners to select the perfect fabrics, furniture and accessories.

Shibui is a Japanese term meaning understated beauty and quality, says Brett Ryan. "We like to bring aspects of Asian and Western design together into one complimentary style."

Shibui Interiors created a contemporary, monochromatic look throughout the home with dramatic accents of colour. All drapery is sumptuous, using voile fabrics and various richly coloured linings.

The lounge windows were left undraped to enhance the view of the outdoor area. Tones of blue on the scatter cushions flow colours from the lounge to the pool. Shibui customised sofas, chairs and an ottoman to suit the proportions of this room. A lift-up lid on the ottoman provides extra storage. Shibui Interiors offers a full interior design service including custom-manufactured furniture, exclusive bed linen, stylish drapery, accessories and authentic Asian antiques.
