Textured glass panels, marble tiling and innovative lighting bring variety to the revamped Femme Fatale gentlemen's club

Spice of life

To maintain a successful business today, most companies strive to create a point of difference. And when your business is a gentlemen's club, that difference can be quite marked.

For the refurbishment of the Femme Fatale gentlemen's club in Auckland, the emphasis was on cutting-edge design and the innovative use of materials.

The remodelling project, designed by Ashton Mitchell Architects, involved redesigning the entrance and lobby and adding a second storey. The entrance now features decorative glass, mosaic tiles, a silver sculpture and computerised, coloured lighting.

The club owner says it was important to create a sense of escape and luxury.

"No expense was spared in the refurbishment," he says. "We wanted to set a new standard for a gentlemen's club and this professionalism needed to be evident from the moment a client steps through the door."

As well as creating a sophisticated look, the owner says the fitout was also designed to impart a modern and trendy image.

The new second storey accommodates new luxury suites, each designed with a different look and ambience. Many of the suites combine marble and coloured slump glass, which features on shower partitions and as a decorative element. Other suites incorporate mirrored tiles, hand-tooled copper bed heads, wood panelling or pebbled surfaces.

One suite features tall columns with decorative, Corinthian-style gold capitals. Gold is repeated on tiled borders and the ceiling.

"We have used Resene metallic paints extensively to add a sense of drama," says the owner. "Similarly, the lighting in all the suites is colour co-ordinated and can be altered to create a variety of moods. Fibreoptic lighting is also a feature of some room settings."

Each of the new suites has its own bathroom facilities, which include top-of-the-line Grohe fittings and Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware. All the suites have spa baths as well as showers.

New technology is also used to advantage, with all the suites having the latest wall- or ceiling-mounted LCD TV screens.
