To ensure minimum inconvenience to staff and students, the refurbishment of Unitec was carried out by Amstar Interiors within a tight time frame
Any commercial refurbishment needs to minimise disruption to production. In educational institutions with intensive annual work schedules, a convenient time for carrying out large-scale construction is over the Christmas holiday break.
So, when Unitec began its latest co-location project to restructure its schools and faculties, it called on Amstar Interiors. To enable Amstar to complete the required work, including refitting 11 computer laboratories and relocating 63 lecture theatres, Unitec had to move 600 staff.
The scope of work included both interior and exterior construction work, through to the final cleaning before staff and students moved back in.
Project manager of Unitec NZ Brett Archer says his institution uses Amstar Interiors because the company's attitude to its work is so professional.
"Amstar staff, from the site supervisor onwards, have a very clear understanding of the whole process, including the needs of Unitec staff and students. Also, we can be completely confident that every part of the project will be completed in full. All we have to do is move back in," he says.
