Achieving a comfortable, contemporary look is all about carefully combining elements to create living spaces that are both inviting and personal.

Interior designer Paula Hassard, merchandise manager for Farmers Hamilton, won the interior design award at the Waikato Home and Garden Show. The creative use of electrical and gas products was the focus of this category.

Hassard's winning entry comprised a living room and an adjacent outdoor room, both with a modern, comfortable feel.

"The aim was to create an atmosphere that was both inviting and intimate, with a strong emphasis on ease of living," says Hassard.

A base palette of neutral shades, including Resene Painters White, provides a simple canvas for seasonal accessorising, she says.

A feature wall of Resene Fireball adds warmth and contrast to the predominantly black and white furnishings, all of which are available from Farmers. These include white Hugo chairs, a Bellini coffee table and a black two-piece Sloane leather suite from the Casa Roma range.

Genesis Energy's general manager retail, Vince Hawksworth, says the Waikato Home and Garden Show Awards recognise local talent and showcase Genesis Energy's partnership with such creativity.

"The awards foster the development of creative design solutions that showcase how the use of gas and electric products in the home contributes to easy living," he says.
