Art Deco shades in bathroom featuring Resene
It was a blank canvas that confronted the owners of this Art Deco home when they set about a major renovation.
But it wasn't to stay that way for long. The pair collect art and their home needed to reflect this interest as well as its Art Deco roots, says interior designer Kelly Gammie of Eucalyptus Design & Interiors.
"I wanted the project to have a sense of authenticity so the first point of colour inspiration was the Art Deco palette itself – elegant pastels highlighted with sombre dark shades. At the same time, the colours needed to be current and innovative and they needed to evoke New Zealand."
Gammie specified Resene paints for the entire house, choosing richer tones for the bathroom. These include Resene Fuscous Grey, Resene Half Sisal, Resene Triple Sisal, Resene Sandspit, Resene Sandstone, Resene Escape, Resene Cutty Sark and Resene Hot August. These were teamed with strong metallic silver accents.
"The colourful geometric walls of the bathroom are artworks in themselves," says the designer. "The stark white of the freestanding bath is a great contrast and helps the combination of Resene colours on the wall to really pop."
The project has caught the attention of judges in the Resene Total Colour Awards, winning the Colour Creativity Award.
