Office building by Woodhams Meikle Zhan Architects
Having an established track record designing buildings for the Quay Park precinct was a definite advantage for the team commissioned to design the new office building known as AECOM House.
Woodhams Meikle Zhan Architects (WMZA) were the architects for the eight-storey Quba apartment building and the adjacent car park building, and was well aware of the significance of the site.
Project architect David Hargreaves says the gateway location needed distinctive architecture. But the project was also about sustainability and creating an active edge at street level.
"Effective communication between the client, contractor and project team has been the key to guiding the project over rigorous consent hurdles and meeting the tight deadline," he says.
WMZA specialises in the master planning and design of retail, commercial, industrial and large-scale residential projects, both in New Zealand and internationally. The firm's diverse client base includes property developers, corporate organisations, retailers and hospitality developers, such as Progressive Enterprises, Westfield, AMP and Goodman, to name a few.
"Our company is made up of talented people who have a passion for design, and a core competency that gives WMZA a distinct competitive advantage," says Hargreaves. "It helps that we have an intimate understanding of consent and review processes, commercial imperatives, and the need for good communication and adding value through innovative thinking."
