During the construction phase of the centre's redevelopment, the mall remained operational. To achieve this, project and construction management company Arrow International carefully planned a 24-hour building programme, maintained accessways and temporarily relocated the food court. The result was that customer numbers were above expectations during this time.
For Arrow International, the multi-million dollar project involved demolishing much of the existing mall and rebuilding it to three times the original size. Arrow International completed the project two months ahead of the original programme and under budget.
"Planning and communication were the two key elements that led to the success of the Eastgate Shopping Centre project," says Arrow's senior project manager, Jan Geesink.
