The brief to designer Davinia Sutton for this master suite was to integrate seamlessly with the overall feel of the master bedroom wing. It had to be a private zone, a place to linger and restore. They also wanted the design to pay homage to the home’s contemporary architecture with its layered forms.

“The owners requested a design with simple clean lines, sleek surfaces and attractive bathroom fittings and fixtures. It had to include a twin shower zone, twin basins, bath and hidden toilet,” says Sutton.

While the design is modern and restrained, the layout forms a practical space, which features a double walk-in shower with overhead rain shower, the required private toilet space, a generous vanity unit and plenty of storage. The bath takes centre stage as the piece on view from the master bedroom.

“To enhance the sense of spaciousness, we cantilevered the vanity off the wall – at the same time playing on the theme of layers with the furniture-like storage unit below, connecting it to the surrounding architecture.”

The tiling detail has been kept simple and restrained, but the contrast of other materials, textures and natural hues in different forms, provided a layered depth to the space.

“While this design utilises all the available space, the mix of selected finishes and
fixtures ensures the desired sense of luxury and serenity, creating a strong
link to the wider ambience in the master bedroom wing,” says Sutton.
