There’s seemingly endless variety when it comes to the fittings you can buy for your bathroom, and shower heads are no different.

From massage heads to sliding heads to fixed heads, it’s important you find one you like. After all, you don’t want to start the day with a low pressure, uncomfortable shower.

Let’s take a look at the various shower head options available.

1. Wall-mounted

Your traditional shower head, wall-mounted is a great way to go if you’re renovating. Chances are you won’t need to redo the plumbing and you’ll save quite a bit of money.

These heads can also include massage options, giving you luxury without breaking the bank.

2. Rain showers

These aren’t for everyone, but they’re seriously cool. Rain showers are set into the ceiling – making them expensive for renovators – and, like the name implies, rain shower down on you. Don’t buy one if you like to shower without getting your hair wet.

3. Flexible/hand-held

By adding a hose from the wall to the shower head itself, you can use your shower for more than just a relaxing soak at the end of the day. You can use it to wash the dog, bathe the kids and even to clean the shower itself. They’re also relatively inexpensive, as they slot in on the wall.

4. Aerating shower heads

These are a great option if you’re looking for something more efficient. By mixing air in with the water (aerating), these heads give you a sensation of higher water pressure, without actually needing to use more water.

Consider a touch of luxury

The above options are just the beginning when it comes to shower heads – there are also numerous luxury options available. Spa shower panels are installed in vertical rows on two sides of a shower, spraying you with a massaging water pattern.

If you really want to step things up, consider a rain shower with a waterfall option. These pour water down from the ceiling in a torrent, and will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a rainforest.
