With its hundreds of glass louvres and elliptical steel framework, the three-storey structure behind the old Chief Post Office is a glittering entrance to New Zealand's first underground train station
It may have a light, transparent look, but the new glasshouse entrance to the Britomart Transport Centre is anything but fragile, thanks to its unique steel structure.
Grayson Engineering was contracted to fabricate and install the building's steel framework. Commercial manager Colin Berger says the company imported elliptical tube steel from France for the project. This was pre-fabricated into sections, then put together on site.
