With its hundreds of glass louvres and elliptical steel framework, the three-storey structure behind the old Chief Post Office is a glittering entrance to New Zealand's first underground train station
Local geological references are a feature of the Britomart Transport Centre, and are evidenced in the use of materials. Basalt from the Auckland isthmus was supplied by Trethewey Granite and Marble for water features, walls, stairs, landings and surrounds.
The company says the basalt is particularly hard wearing and available in a range of finishes.
