To create a particular look for a home, it may be necessary to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of several different materials.
Pieter Oosterbaan, managing director of Beaver Construction went through this process when asked to give the house featured above left a simple, clean-lined look.
"We chose Shadowclad from the cladding products available, for its weathertight, monolithic finish. It is reliable and will look good for years. It has been available for a long time and has a proven track record."
Shadowclad, from Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts, is a plywood sheet cladding that can be used for bracing. It comes in two styles – textured or grooved – and two finishes – natural, which can be stained or Climate™ primed, ready for painting. It is popular with builders because it is lightweight, easy to handle and needs no special tools to apply. Its modern appearance and ability to be cut into shapes and curved appeals to architects and designers.
Shadowclad can be teamed with claddings such as weatherboard, corrugated zincalume or stone for an individual look.
