Wrapped in white marble, this new master bathroom has a fresh, contemporary classic appeal
This master bathroom in a new house demonstrates just how dramatic a room can look with a large-scale tile.
Ben Kirk of SpazioCasa says the Ariston 800mm x 800mm white marble tiles that wrap around the bathroom were chosen precisely because they would convey a sense of large marble slabs. For this reason also, the tiles were laid to expose the least amount of grouting, and were aligned with the glass shower doors.
"It's a very contemporary classic look, that it will be just as appealing in 10 years' time."
Kirk says the materials in the bathroom were chosen to complement the juxtaposition of black and white elements that can be seen throughout the house.
"Here, we teamed white marble with a cantilevered dark oak vanity cabinet that has a central pedestal, black glass top and Livorno oval stone basins."
Modern polished chrome Luna tapware and a Mars bath spout filler reinforce the clean-lined look.
A double shower with frameless glass doors is flush with the main bathroom floor, which helps to make the room seem more spacious. Similarly, two parallel floor-to-ceiling mirrors – one behind each basin – contribute to the sense of space and light.
"We wanted to play down the size of the bathtub," says Kirk. "Setting it within the white marble tub surround effectively makes it seem less of an intrusion."
