To enhance the sleek, modernist lines of this new home, the architect specified vitrified stone tiles and wood flooring from SpazioCasa

Waterfront homes provide the ideal opportunity to enjoy an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. So it's not surprising that this new home is designed to provide such a flow between living areas.

Architect Julian Guthrie from Godward Guthrie Architects says flooring and paving products from SpazioCasa were chosen with this in mind. Materials were also selected to complement the sleek, minimalist design of the house and the subtle nautical theme evident throughout.

The ground-floor family room, which opens out to a swimming pool, features 60cm x 60cm TecnoQuartz vitrified stone tiles in Silver.

"These large tiles are 15mm thick, and have the appearance of natural stone," says Guthrie. "Their white, textural look ties in with a coastal beach garden, which features shells, stones and succulents."

Guthrie says the maintenance-free tiles were also used for the outdoor living area and pool surrounds, creating a seamless flow between the inside and out.

The living areas shown on these pages feature SpazioCasa's Listone Giordano Ash Maxi wood flooring in NaturPlus.

Guthrie says the timber floor introduces a warmth that balances the hard lines of the interior. It is an effective visual contrast to the plastered concrete block walls and pre-aged zinc panelling that are features of both the interior and exterior of the house.

"These boards were also specified for their consistency," says Guthrie. "We knew exactly what colour we were getting."

SpazioCasa flooring and bathroom products are displayed in showrooms in Auckland, Takapuna, Kerikeri and Queenstown.
